Sublime Text

I’ve been trying out a new text editor called Sublime Text. It’s packed with neat features like pre-made themes, a mini-map, multi-select, bracket matching, and more. I’m positive this is going to replace TextMate for me – and best of all, it’s FREE!

iPad Paint/Draw Apps

I’ve purchased a few iPad apps for painting and drawing. Here’s a quick review of each.

Inspire Pro
I go this app as part of a Black Friday special, for $1.99. The standard price for the app is $7.99. While I think it’s a great product, after trying out some other apps, I’m kind of glad I got it at that price.

Pros: Several brushes, Paint loading, Undo on Screen, Sharing
Cons: No Layers, No Hi-Res

Procreate
This one is my favorite for painting. It’s relatively new and is loaded with features at a price point of $4.99. The interface is also fabulous.

Pros: Insert a Photo, Hi-res available, Layers, Simple & Clean Interface, Save from Canvas
Cons: Not as good as Inspire for Oil Painting

Sketchbook Pro
I really like this app for sketching. I haven’t used it too much, so some gripes I have may be due to lack of time spent finding alternate options. Beware – there’s a button at the top left that I thought was save.. and it wiped the entire canvas!

Pros: Lots of drawing tools, Symmetrical Feature, Add Text
Cons: Can’t pin undo/redo to the screen, I hate the 3-finger menu, Limited colors

A Book Apart

I finally got around to reading all of the books I purchased from A Book Apart, which include CSS3 for Web Designers, HTML5 for Web Designers and Responsive Web Design.

A co-worker recommended them, and I have to say, I found them to be delightfully surprising. Granted, this is partly due to my wonderful iPad2. Normally I am not the type to purchase tech books, only because I’m more hands-on. I taught myself web design at a very young age and have never found a need for paperbacks.

I love that you can watch video tutorials as your reading. It made reading the books fun. I’d definitely suggest purchasing these if you’re an aspiring web designer, or an old dog looking for new tricks.

All Grown Up

At some point in my career I began purchasing my own fonts. While I still use resources such as Da Font and Font Squirrel for freebies, I’m much more likely to visit My Fonts when in need of a new font to use. There’s just something about purchasing a licensed font that makes me feel all grown up.

BlizzCon 2009 n00bz

Designing my own n00b was one of the things I wanted to do most at BC. I sat down at a table at 11:00am and didn’t get up from that seat until 4:30pm. While it was my intention to spend a few hours there, I had no idea I’d be there for over five. However, I do have a habit of being overly obsessive about my work and I don’t like to stop until I’m finished. Check out the pics of my Rogue Tier 5 (Deathmantle) n00b, created with Sharpie markers and paint pens.
